Multi Windows Android N

Android 7.0 adds support for displaying more than one app at the same time. On handheld devices, two apps can run side-by-side or one-above-the-other in split-screen mode. On TV devices, apps can use picture-in-picture mode to continue video playback while users are interacting with another app.

Direct Notification Reply

Quick Reply is simply the ability to reply to a message directly from its notification without having to open the app fully. It’s a fantastic feature and one that will save you a lot of time and endless app switching.

New Emoji’s

Android Nougat is here, and it comes with one of the system’s biggest updates to emoji, based on the new Unicode 9.0 release.

Most people don’t use emoji’s but it makes conversation a lot easier to understand and it brings some vibrancy to it as well. Android has over 1500 emoji to choose from and they have also added another 72 to be used. You have different peoples and different skin tones.

Quick Settings

The ability to customize Quick Settings is among the most useful of the many changes you’ll notice when you pull down the notification shade in Android 7.0 Nougat.

Like other mobile OSes, Android lets you swipe down from the top of the screen to display notifications and key system settings and actions. On Android this display is called the notification shade, and it includes an expandable (and now configurable) area for Quick Settings plus a list of notifications (which are now bundled by app). I’ll be looking at the changes to Android 7.0 Nougat notifications soon; first, we’ll look at Quick Settings.

Support for Multiple Language

Multi-lingual Android users have always struggled with the rather limited support for more than one language in Android. Android N’s new Multi-Locale Mode aims to address that imbalance by allowing users to add multiple languages in order of priority, so the system can switch from one to the other when necessary. Apps that don’t support the primary language will simply drop to the next on the priority list.

Battery Life

One way to eke more power from your Nexus is to let it Doze. Doze is an Android Marshmallow feature that automatically throttles down your phone when it decides it isn’t doing anything. It makes a huge difference to battery life – it can more than double it.

Direct Boot

One Of the android 7.0 nugget features is supporting direct boot. Android 7.0 runs in a secure, Direct Boot mode when the device has been powered on but the user has not unlocked the device. To support this, the system provides two storage locations for data:

  • Credential encrypted storage, which is the default storage location and only available after the user has unlocked the device.
  • Device encrypted storage, which is a storage location available both during Direct Boot mode and after the user has unlocked the device.

Seamless Updates Android Nougat

Seamless updates download and install automatically in the background. When they’re ready to go, you just reboot your phone and a minute or two later you should be running the latest update. And the new process is safer too: if an update doesn’t install properly, Android can just boot into the previous configuration.

Better Performance

Starting with Chrome version 51 in Android 7.0, WebView will run web content in a separate sandboxed process when the developer option “Multiprocess WebView” is enabled.

We’re looking for feedback on compatibility and runtime performance in N before enabling multiprocess WebView in a future version of Android. In this version, regressions in startup time, total memory usage and software rendering performance are expected.

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality: Google is diving deeper into virtual reality. Today at its I/O keynote, the company announced Daydream, a VR platform built on top of Android N. Google says that Daydream-ready phones, as well as VR viewers and motion controllers, will be available this fall.

VR is likely to have a major place at I/O this year. Rumours abound that a virtual reality headset, and possibly a version of Android for VR, are on the way.
